General Semyon Tsvigun held the post of first deputy head of the KGB under Yuri Andropov for 15 years. His secret suicide in January 1982 became one of the mysteries of the Brezhnev' era: the general's name has been linked to conspiracies against both Andropov and Brejnev. The granddaughter of Semyon Tsvigun, Violetta Nichkova, proposes a completely new version of the general's death.

For the first time on screen, Tsvigun' wife, children, personal assistant, and doctor talk about his life. The film also presents commentary from people who knew the general: former KGB head Vladimir Krutchkov, Andropov' political assistant Igor Sinitsyn, and the writer Edouard Topol. The film uses newsreels, and documents from the family archives and the KGB archives.
